Deodorant Vs. Antiperspirant
Deodorant
MAIN FUNCTION: Designed to block odor.
HOW DOES IT WORK? Contains specific ingredients to target the odor-causing bacteria that live in the underarms. Without any bacteria to feast on the proteins and fats delivered through sweat, no odor is produced.
PROS: The body is meant to sweat to release toxins. This is a natural and healthy process.
CONS: Excess sweat… BUT once the body no longer has underarm pores blocked with aluminum, it will adjust the volume of sweat it produces.
Antiperspirant
MAIN FUNCTION: Designed to block sweat.
HOW DOES IT WORK? Ingredients like aluminum and zirconium plug the sweat glands under the arm and no sweat is released.
PROS: Puts a temporary block on natural sweat escaping the body.
CONS: Aluminum zirconium prevents the body from releasing toxins. It traps product-based toxins in the lymph nodes and near breast tissue. Studies suggest a link between antiperspirant use and breast cancer. Those with chronic kidney disease are also encouraged not to use antiperspirants.
